Frequently asked questions

Q. Why don’t you ask for a phone number or email at sign-up?
AURUM is designed to work without knowing who you are. A key your app creates on your device is your account. Information we never receive cannot leak.
Q. How do I add a friend?
We don’t upload your address book. You add someone by searching their @handle or scanning a QR code — a good fit for people you already know, like family and close friends.
Q. If I change or lose my device, do my chats disappear?
Your identity and keys live on your device. You can move them with multi-device linking, Install the app on a new device and link it with the QR/linking code shown on your existing device. If you lose a device, revoke it under Settings → Device management.
Q. I’m worried about voice phishing. Does AURUM block it?
AURUM does not analyze or block call contents. Instead, it helps you cryptographically “verify” that the caller or sender is the real family member or friend you know. The judgment is yours.
Q. Can the Company see my messages?
1:1 and small-group chats are end-to-end encrypted, so our servers cannot see the contents. However, open chats (public rooms) are processed by the server because many people take part, and the app shows a notice about it.
Q. How do I report an abusive user or content?
Long-press a message to “Report” it, and use the contact or profile menu to “Block” a user. Reported content is reviewed and acted upon.
Q. There are no ads — how is it funded?
We don’t show ads and we don’t sell data. Future paid options (e.g., subscriptions) are limited to convenience, expression, and family-peace features. Security and safety features are equal for everyone, free of charge.
Q. I want to delete my account.
You can delete it in the app settings; your account info is destroyed on deletion (except legally retained items). Path: Settings → Account → Delete account.
